Kingsburgh car guard on the move

During her 20 years of vigil at the centre, she has witnessed numerous events, including armed robberies.

Well-known and loved Amanzimtoti car guard Maureen Rolling has moved from Kingsburgh Shopping Centre to Illovo Nursery in Illovo Beach.

Maureen was born in Nelstroom and moved to Toti on 23 August 1998. She started working as a car guard at the Kingsburgh centre exactly a month later on 23 September.

During her 20 years of vigil at the centre, she has witnessed numerous events, including armed robberies. She has become a familiar face to shoppers there, many of whom she will miss. Her last day was on Monday, 1 October and she will take up her duty outside the nursery from Saturday, 6 October.

“Thanks to all my customers – I will miss a lot of them. I will still be in the area, so hopefully I will see some of them again. I’m taking a huge leap of faith but I think it’s time.” Maureen also wants her faithful customers to know she is not doing bottle recycling anymore.
