Cultures come alive at Heritage Day celebrations

It was a successful day, with the jubilant atmosphere painted colourfully with traditional attire.

Members of the eThekwini Outer South cluster (EOS) celebrated Heritage Day at Hutchison Parkon Wednesday, 26 September. Members from the cluster office and officers from Amanzimtoti, Isipingo, Folweni, KwaMakhutha, Umkomaas, Umbumbulu and Umlazi stations come together to celebrate their diverse cultures.

They showcased their rich and diverse cultures and made use of the opportunity to celebrate and embrace their diversity through dance, music, food and cultural attire. There was also a beauty pageant for Mr and Miss EOS cluster, which was won by Nelly Hlongwane of Umbumbulu SAPS and Morgan Naidoo of Umlazi SAPS.

It was a successful day, with the jubilant atmosphere painted colourfully with traditional attire. Many were reminded of their home towns, using the day to reflect on their roots and heritage on the strength and wealth of South Africa’s heritage.

“Heritage Day is a national day steeped in history, a day when South Africans reflect on what it truly means to be part of the rainbow nation. As a country with 11 official languages and so many diverse cultures, this day was all about celebrating our diversity and that makes us unique as a country,” said acting EOC cluster commander, Brigadier MVP Mgobhozi.
