Knifepoint robbery goes awry in Amanzimtoti

The two suspects had duped two unsuspecting people into believing they were taking them to meet the owner of a car wash.

An armed robber was apprehended by the Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO) on Tuesday, 25 September after he and an accomplice robbed two people at knifepoint near Toti railway station.

CCPO committee member, George Snodey said they received a call at about noon about two suspects who had duped two unsuspecting people into believing they were taking them to meet the owner of a car wash, who needed staff. “Once they approached the railway line, they pulled out knives and robbed the victims of their phones and cash,” said Snodey.

Armed with a description of the duo, CCPO response officer Michael Mkhize searched the CBD area, eventually apprehending one of them and recovering a phone which had been sold to a taxi rank manager.

Once Michael had detained the suspect, he realised it was the same man who had stolen a dog which was recovered in a neighbouring township at the weekend. The victim opened a case and the thug was arrested by Toti SAPS.
