Farewell to ‘famous’ Leo Fourie
A convoy will drive from Winklespruit Beach through Toti to the Toti Methodist Church on Friday, 14 September.
COLLEAGUES who work on the local emergency services scene are mourning the loss of their friend and former paramedic, Leo Fourie who died suddenly on Friday, 7 September.
Leo was a much loved former paramedic, whose entire life had been dedicated to serving others in various positions in the emergency services.
He had also previously served as a police reservist and firefighter.
His family will hold a memorial service in Pietermaritzburg’s One Life Church, south site, 498 Alexandra Road Ext in Bisley on Friday, 14 September.
However, locally friends and colleagues will remember his life at an Amanzimtoti memorial service on the same day at 10am at Toti Methodist Church, 3 Dingwall Road.
A convoy will drive through Toti to the church beforehand, leaving Winklespruit Beach at 9.30am sharp.
EMS personnel are asked to wear their uniforms.
Both his sister Gwynyth and former paramedic colleagues agreed that the selfless Leo was always quick to laugh and loved pranking his colleagues.
The Sun remembers Leo for his constant phrase as he always joked with its staff that we were ‘making him famous’.
Gwynyth told the Sun Leo had been born in Pietermaritzburg Grey’s Hospital on 15 April 1981. He was three months premature and was nurtured in an incubator for three months.
He went to St Christopher Junior School, Pelham and Hillcrest High School before he matriculated through Damelin in 1999. According to Gwynyth, who is a policewoman, Leo was a police reservist for about six years, working with the dog and accident units. After discovering his desire to become a paramedic, he worked with ER24, then with KwaZulu Private in Pietermaritzburg, before transferring to ER24 in Toti where he worked for several years before taking up a position at ET Security about a year ago.
Leo leaves behind his beloved daughters Chloe and Leandri, mother and father Trish and Norman and the late Louis and sister Gwynyth.
