With listeriosis outbreak over, prices return to normal

To date, R12 million was spent during the response period to deal with the outbreak.

WITH the announcement by Health Minister Dr Aaron Motsoaledi earlier this week that the listeriosis outbreak in South Africa is over, the price of processed meats is set to return to pre-outbreak levels.

The outbreak, which occurred around April this year, affected the prices of processed meats.

The minister updated the media on the country’s efforts to combat the listeriosis outbreak at the National Health Laboratory in Johannesburg on Monday, 3 September.

Motsoaledi announced that it was now safe to eat meat products, and the department would continue to monitor the outbreak.
