Primary school’s disco fundraises for Operation Bobbi Bear

The event was deemed great fun and a complete success, with R15,000 raised for the local children's rights non-profit.

WARNER Beach Preparatory hosted a disco on Friday night, 31 August in an effort to raise money for Operation Bobbi Bear.

The event was deemed great fun and a complete success, with R15,000 raised for the local children’s rights non-profit.

“Bobbi Bear does so much for our children,” said Warner Beach Prep principal Kevin Maiden. “Being a community school we have a responsibility to look after our community and most importantly, our children. We often forget, however, to look after our caregivers.”

Maiden expressed how he was horrified to hear that both Michelle Jacobs and Eureka Olivier often use their own personal money to look after these children.

“Warner Beach Prep has made a commitment to help in any way we can. The disco fundraiser was just one of many ideas to raise money for Bobbi Bear and Kingsburgh Child Welfare. Discos are always a hit with the children, hard work for the teachers but Warner Beach Prep has a fun, committed staff who are always willing to go the extra mile,” he said.

Bobbi Bear’s Eureka Olivier expressed her immense gratitude.

“Thank you to Warner Beach Prep’s headmaster, the teachers, parents, and the most important part of this mix – the children. Mark Hardman from Freshstop Southgate donated Boerewors, Gary Hawkins from Victory Kwikspar refused to take my money when I tried to pay and in turn donated all the charcoal, briquettes, serviettes and some juices, Courtney Masterton donated rolls, margarine, tomato sauces, Marina de Kock donated margarine, Beth Duncan donated tomato sauce and mustard, and my friend Lash contributed small juices. Thank you all.

Gratitude is owed to Warners Prep teacher Samantha Rautenbach who started the idea, thank you for seeing it through, and so many other wonderful people who just stopped at Bobbi Bear and donated extra boerewors, rolls and so on.”

The culmination of all efforts contributed led to the success of a disco night fundraiser.

“We at Bobbi Bear have no words to express the absolute gratitude to each and every person who contributed to this amazing evening. You are so our heroes and these businesses always go beyond for all our charities in Amanzimtoti, they are truly worth supporting by each and every one of us,” said Eureka.

“Warner Beach Prep, every single one of you are amazing for your love and care in our community. Children helping children – children with such good manners, who danced the night away to bring a song to children who are less fortunate.”
