Help clear your coastal town of Amanzimtoti on global clean-up day

Calling all Amanzimtoti residents to get stuck in to clear and clean the town on International Coastal Clean-up Day on Saturday, 15 September.

“Experience has taught us that individuals and interest groups have specific areas that are close to their heart, homes or businesses and various start-off points have been selected where they can meet and work alongside like-minded, inspired people,” said ward 97 councillor, Andre Beetge.

There will be a project co-ordinator at each start-off point who will be easily identifiable in a blue Sapphire Coast Tourism T-shirt.

Bags will be supplied and collected by the municipality from identified pick-up points on the beaches and adjacent areas. Participants are requested to supply their own gloves, rakes or spikes, and ensure they take drinking water.

Participation has been confirmed from representatives of Kingsway High School, NG Kerk, Halfway Toyota Durban South and the Scouts.

Assemble at 7.30am to start at 8am until 10am – those who wish to continue after 10am can liaise with their respective co-ordinators.

“Keeping our town and planet clean should not be reserved for a specific day or month but rather an everyday occurrence. However, considering that September is not only clean-up month but also the start of Spring, as well as Heritage Month, let us then follow the example set by nature and start with a clean slate by not only concentrating on our rivers and beaches but also clearing what’s in our immediate vicinity.

This would extend beyond litter to include overgrowth, building rubble, branches or anything else that clutters and makes the area look unkept and untidy. Join in to become part of the solution.”
