Children injured in Umkomaas collision

Some of the patients were children aged between five and 15.

About 20 people, several of them children, were injured this morning (Tuesday, 4 September) in a collision between a school transporter and a truck on the R197 in Umkomaas.

ER24’s Russel Meiring said paramedics found the two vehicles in the middle of the road, with several people still seated inside the transporter while others were walking around on the scene. One patient was trapped inside the school transporter and fire services had to use specialised equipment to free the patient from the vehicle.

Paramedics assessed the patients and found that about 20 people had been injured. Several patients were children aged between five and 15. Once treated, the patients were transported to nearby hospitals. Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
