Montclair woman’s keyrings could save lives

MONTCLAIR local, Julie Meyer wants to make the community safer and has come up with a great idea of providing schools with ICE key rings.
ICE stands for In Case of Emergency, and these keyrings contain important information for incidents when a person or child is stuck in a life-threatening situation.

Meyer said with the recent spike in kidnappings and child trafficking, it is important for children, especially pre-schoolers to have such information on them. “They are babies, so they won’t remember numbers or can easily misplace them. With the keyrings, it can be attached to their bags or pants. So if they do go missing and someone finds them, they will have all the details on them,” said Meyer.

She said in the event of an accident, sadly the first thing which gets stolen are people’s cellphones. “It happens, while someone is laying injured, there will be that few who will take advantage of the situation and steal. So it is a good idea to have these keyrings on them, as it might save a life,” she said.

A few Montclair schools have already come on board with equipping their children with the key rings and she urges other schools and parents to follow suit, “With child trafficking or children get knocked by cars, this simple keyring can be the only contact a paramedic have with their parents or guardians.
