Preparations for the birthday meeting on Monday, 3 September were discussed

AMANZIMTOTI Women’s Institute (AWI) August meeting opened with the singing of the FWI song, Unity and then an Afrikaans rendition of the prayer was read by Stella van der Walt.

President Yvonne Dixie welcomed all especially four visitors Rose, Gwen, Penny and Estelle.

Everyone hopes they enjoyed the meeting and looks forward to having them return. Norma and Kay Wagner are still not up and about, and members were sorry to hear that friend Kay Day has had a fall. They also heard after the meeting that cookery judge, Doreen Goldshagg is in Kingsway Hospital after she had a bad fall which damaged her hip. Doreen and Kay are in everyone’s prayers.

Preparations for the birthday meeting on Monday, 3 September were discussed and members were reminded that if they are so inclined, they may take along a friend. Voting by written ballot took place for Amanzimtoti woman of the year and for the WI’s own friendship tray which will be awarded next month. Thank you to members for the bumper collection of ‘over the counter’ chemist items. They will be much appreciated by the residents of the Elders’ Voice homes.

After tea and delicious snacks, Captain Charlene van der Spuy spoke to everyone about a scary risk of modern times – identity theft. Thanks to Charlene, members will all now be much more aware of scams and fraud.
