Jabulani residents spread joy with knitted toys

The toys will be handed out to children at two Lovu schools and one Umbumbulu school at the end of November.

Impoverished schoolchildren in Umbumbulu and Lovu will have a reason to smile this Christmas when they are gifted with a knitted toy.

Jabulani committee chairman, Betty McCarthy said they were requested to knit 120 toys for the JB Welfare Institute in January. Residents jumped at the chance to help those less fortunate than themselves and knitted every day since February to complete the mammoth task. They were gifted a stipend for their time by the institute. The toys were handed over to the institute on Monday, 20 August.

“Many thanks to all the Jabulani residents who heeded our call for help,” said Jolene Berry of the JB Welfare Institute. “The toys will be handed out to children at two Lovu schools and one Umbumbulu school at the end of November. It is such a pleasure to see the little children’s faces when they are given a present. For many, this will be the only Christmas present they receive.”
