Unlucky Tuesday for Amanzimtoti burglars

The Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO) has been kept busy this week. Tuesday, 14 August was a particularly bad day for housebreakers in the area.

A housebreaker who broke into a Camp Road, Winklespruit premises on Saturday, 11 August was caught by staff members when he tried his luck again on Tuesday morning. “He has been arrested on two other occasions for housebreaking in our area and is well known to us,” said CCPO committee member, George Snodey. He was taken to Toti detective branch for further questioning.

In a separate incident, a housebreaker who stole a car radio and other items from a Queens Terrace residence in Doonside was caught thanks to the speedy arrival of a Blue Security and CCPO response officer. He was handed over to Toti SAPS.

A scrap metal thief was nabbed by the yard owner’s son in Bowen Place, who managed to hold onto him until help arrived from the CCPO, Blue Security, ET Rapid Response and Toti SAPS.

“A criminal we had all been searching for, for a few weeks, also had his day on Tuesday. He had been returning weekly to an upmarket business premises in Doonside and stealing TVs, alcohol, hair dryers and so on but to his detriment, this establishment has a myriad of CCTV cameras covering just about the entire area,” said Snodey.

The CCPO got hold of images of the burglar and shared them with fellow security and SAPS members. “When I was going home on Tuesday, I saw a guy coming out of Middleton Road who fitted the description. I called for assistance and as the suspect walked into Hillside Road, we stopped and questioned him.

When it became apparent he was the same person, we detained him and called Toti SAPS.” He showed police where he had sold the last TV, which they recovered along with several other items. He was arrested and detained.
