Beanie donation warms informal settlement creche’s charges

There were smiles all around when the Lions Club of Amanzimtoti visited Lindokuhle Crèche at Isipingo’s Dakota informal settlement to deliver beanies to each child on Friday, 3 August.

The beanies were sponsored to the Lions Club of Amanzimtoti by an elderly woman.

When the Lions arrived at the crèche, they were greeted in isiZulu, English and Afrikaans by the friendly and excited children. Each child was fitted with a beanie and received something sweet to eat.

“We have between 38 and 42 children a month at the crèche,” said teacher Molly Govender. “Parents find it difficult to pay, as most only receive minimum wages. We feed the children in the morning and at lunch time, even if it is just a slice of bread. We need perishable and non-perishable items. The crèche urgently needs paint and flooring and we are short of little chairs and tables.”

Lindokuhle Crèche is registered as a NPO. It was named after a little boy, Lindokuhle Myeza who died in a shack fire in the informal settlement in 2014.

“The Lions Club of Amanzimtoti is committed to assist wherever possible at Lindokuhle,” said project chairman at Amanzimtoti Lions, Margaret Haus. “The creche needs a lot of help and we will be doing lots of projects there.
