Security officer praised for swift arrest

Residents are encouraged to ensure their alarms are maintained.

A private security officer has been praised for his quick response which led to the arrest of a suspected thief in Isipingo on Wednesday, 11 July.

The Fidelity ADT Monitoring Centre received a panic alarm signal just after 2pm and armed response officer (ARO), Eugene Mwelase, went to investigate at an Alexander Avenue property.

Upon arrival he noticed the garage door had been forced open. He entered the garage and spotted the suspect hiding. The man was successfully apprehended and handed over to Isipingo SAPS.

“I encourage the community to make sure their alarms are maintained in order to ensure that everything is functioning properly,” said district manager for Fidelity ADT KZN, Ivan Govender.

“It is also important to conduct regular security assessments in order to resolve any vulnerable or unprotected areas to deter opportunistic criminals. Security technologies such as CCTV, outdoor beams and roof passives are often used to proactively prevent crime.”
