Amanzimtoti’s Senzo is painting the coast more than blue

Senzo Ngcobo (35) has been working wonders with his paintbrush, adding a touch of love to the town as he paints his way through it.

SAPPHIRE Coast Tourism (SCT) is continuing its mission to paint the coast blue, only this time with a more vivid sapphire blue for lasting results.

Senzo Ngcobo (35) has been working wonders with his paintbrush, adding a touch of love to the town as he paints his way through it.

Senzo recently completed his mural on the electricity box at Hutchison Park, as well as covering the Umgababa Bridge in a coat of darker sapphire blue. His electricity room mural beautifully depicts the day-to-day happenings of the area: Cows grazing on the luscious banks of the Amanzimtoti River, the high-lying properties of the area and the road winding over the bridges, rivers and through the sports hub of the area.

He is currently working on another wall of the electricity room and already sketched the rough mural-to-be, showing dog-walkers, runners and cyclists both using and admiring the well-kept area.

The artist, who has lived locally for eight years, previously lived and did much of his painting in Port Shepstone. Senzo often paints murals for creches, tuckshops and shop owners who need window dressings. He loves art and truly hopes the community will notice him for it, and support his skill. Aside from artwork, he is also experienced in plumbing, electrical work and geysers.

“I really believe that painting more murals on walls throughout Amanzimtoti is the way to deter vandals from ruining the freshly painted walls,” said Senzo.

“I hope the Amanzimtoti community supports me in my mission to decorate and uplift the town. A plain, freshly painted wall is more appealling to vandals than one decorated with a detailed mural.”

SCT has confirmed the next bridges on the list include those in Umkomaas and the surrounding area. It urges the community to keep a keen eye on the progress and better yet, get involved. The painting of the town can be a costly outlay for the handful undertaking the project, yet all those living in the town benefit from the beautification effort.
