A number of illegal firearms were recovered in KwaMakhutha on Tuesday night, 10 July. The eThekwini Outer South (EOS) intelligence-driven operation which was conducted by the EOS COCC task team and Umlazi K9 unit at Shabalala rank in Kwamakhutha yielded excellent arrests and firearm recoveries.
Two suspects, aged 19 and 45-years-old, possibly involved in trio crimes and taxi violence with illegal firearms were arrested. The suspects were found in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.
Exhibits recovered during the operation were a R5 Rifle with 31 live rounds, a Vektor 9mm pistol with 14 rounds, and a CZ 9mm pistol with 15 live rounds. A vehicle was also found with a grinder, electric extension cords and gloves which could possibly be linked to ATM robberies.

“We have been working long and hard to make these strategic arrests in our cluster,” said acting EOS Cluster commander, Brigadier Vukani Mgobhozi. “Well done to EOS crime intelligence and EOS COCC police members for their commitment and professionalism. We will continue to make breakthrough arrests to ensure serious crime is eradicated in the cluster.”
