Sign up to serve on ward 97 sub-committee

The 10 sub-committee members under each portfolio should ideally be from each of the suburbs within the ward

Ward 97 residents are needed to serve on the ward’s sub-committees. In August 2017, members of the ward 97 ward committee expressed disappointment in the community’s apathy about becoming involved with the different portfolio committees that they are supposed to chair.

“In terms of the Constitution and municipal guidelines, all wards are expected to comprise 10-person portfolio committees who in turn have to advise and recommend ward-specific service delivery strategies to council,” said ward 97 councillor, Andre Beetge.

These portfolios are:

2. Transport, roads and stormwater

3. Health, safety and security

4. Human settlements

5. Cleansing and solid waste

6. Skills development and job creation

7. Entrepreneurship and small business support

8. Youth, gender and vulnerable groups

9. Electricity, water and sanitation.

“The 10 sub-committee members under each portfolio should ideally be from each of the suburbs within the ward, to ensure proper representation from across the entire area. Training will be supplied and meetings scheduled in accordance with the council agenda,” said Cllr Beetge.

Residents who live within the borders of ward 97 are urged to contact Cllr Beetge or to collect an expression of interest document from the councillors’ office at 423 Kingsway for consideration to serve on any of the sub-committees. Participation is voluntary and no stipend, out of pocket expenses or wages are offered.
