Arrested Umkomaas duo linked to Amanzimtoti business burglaries

The removal of these suspects will definitely have an impact in Ethekwini Outer South Cluster and neighbouring clusters with regards to business breakins.

Umkomaas SAPS crime prevention unit swooped on a business burglary gang which has been linked to at least 15 business robberies committed in Amanzimtoti and Scottburgh on Tuesday, 3 July, recovering stolen goods valued at about R130,000.

At about 12.45pm on Tuesday, W/O Logan Naidoo, Const Ryan Armugam and Const Thamsanqa Magcaba followed up information they had received about stolen goods. Along with assistance from the Umzinto K9 dog unit, they proceeded to the address in the Danganya area where they found a 38-year-old man and a woman (24) in possession of stolen property.

In the home they found a number of cellphones, computers, clothing items, tools, airgun, perfumes, R9,800 in cash, jewellery and housebreaking implements. The duo were taken to Umkomaas SAPS and charged with possession of stolen property.

The man has been already linked to 15 cases of business burglaries in Amanzimtoti and Scottburgh. Police are still investigating whether they can be linked to other crimes. They suspect the man may also be linked to cases in Harding. The modus operandi in these business robberies involved breaking through the roof of businesses, disconnecting the alarms and cutting open the safe.

Brig Vukani Mgobhozi, acting Ethekwini Outer South cluster commander said: “Well done to Umkomaas Crime Prevention. I commend them on this outstanding arrest and recovery of stolen goods. The removal of these suspects will definitely have an impact in Ethekwini Outer South Cluster and neighbouring clusters with regards to business breakins.”
