Young Amanzimtoti entrepreneur makes her dream comes true

A young entrepreneur has taken advantage of her free time during the school holidays to set up her own little business in her mother’s salon. Nine-year-old Shaylen Potgieter’s nail-painting business is doing a roaring trade, with her friends lining up to make appointments to have their nails done.

“I only started this week but I have been busy,” said the grade 3 Amanzimtoti Primary School pupil. “All my friends are supporting me.” The young business girl gets free marketing, thanks to mom Chanel posting an advert for her on Facebook. She also cheekily negotiated her little corner in her mom’s salon rent-free and was sponsored a vast array of different coloured nail polishes.

Her mom is a nail technician, who also makes re-born babies (lifelike dolls), both of which Shaylen wants to do when she is grown up. With no overheads and freezing mom out of a percentage of her earnings, she said she will “buy her something” with her earnings.
