Cocaine, ‘cat’ worth R300,000 seized in Amanzimtoti CBD bust

The estimated street value of the drugs is R300,000.

An Amanzimtoti drug dealer was arrested by SAPS in the CBD on Wednesday night, 27 June.

Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane of the SAPS KZN media centre said members of the provincial drug, firearm and gang unit had done a lot of undercover work to identify the 29-year-old suspected drug dealer. “Police spent many long hours, day and night, holding static observations on this particular individual.”

On Wednesday at about 9pm, police made their move when the man was travelling in his vehicle in the CBD. On searching the suspect, they found cocaine and methecatinone in his possession. Police then took him to his place of residence, where they conducted a search. They found large amounts of rock cocaine, cocaine and methecatinone.

Some of the drugs found were wrapped in plastic bags and it appeared as if they were ready for sale, while the rest of the drugs had not been cut up yet. An amount of R3,000 was also seized from him. The estimated street value of the drugs is R300,000.

The suspect was expected to appear in the Amanzimtoti Magistrates Court on Friday, 29 June on charges of drug dealing.
