Orange bag recycling has resumed in Toti

Ethekwini Municipality said that those who are not receiving bags or whose bags are not being collected, should report this so that it can be rectified.

AMANZIMTOTI residents are in a state of confusion about the beloved municipal orange bag recycling programme, which is still beset by problems.

Ethekwini Municipality however has clarified that the recycling and collection of orange bags is continuing and those who are not receiving bags or whose bags are not being collected, should report this so that it can be rectified.

The city’s deputy head of communications, Mandla Nsele responded to the Sun’s enquiry. “The provision of orange bags is a continuing service. The contractor is currently distributing bags in the area. Residents who require bags or whose bags have not been collected need to contact the cleansing and solid waste department’s education and waste minimisation office on 031-322-0780 or email kdbarec@durban.gov.za.”

This serves as good news for those who take pride in re-using and recycling their paper and plastic items, as they can now continue to do so.

Each bag filled with recyclable waste means a bag more which can be put to good use, and a bag less that ends up negatively impacting the environment.

The public is encouraged to continue on with their recycling and if not yet doing so, take up the habit and make a difference in the world.
