Con artists target pensioners in scam

Pensioners are urged to be wary of this scam.

An Amanzimtoti pensioner has warned other residents about a scam that’s doing the rounds. Shirley Petzer (88) said she received a call from a man claiming to work for Absa Bank who asked if she was trying to send money to China.

He then asked for her credit card details but the pensioner was not fooled and asked for his number and said she would call him back. He then rang off.

When she queried with Absa’s fraud department, they said they are aware of the scam as the caller seems to be targeting pensioners.
