SASSA card migration to start mid-May

The old CPS-Grindrod SASSA card can be swopped for the new SASSA-Postbank card from the middle of May onwards.

WITH the SASSA card launch on 3 May, the SA Post Office’s (SAPO) chief operating officer Lindiwe Kwele urged beneficiaries to consider moving from receiving cash payments to a bank account, as a beneficiary with cash runs a very real risk of being mugged.

The old CPS-Grindrod SASSA card can be swopped for the new SASSA-Postbank card from the middle of May onwards.

The new card allows for the following free services per month:

No EFT debits or stop orders are available on the new card. This means no illegal deductions can be made from the new SASSA card.

“All commercial bank accounts incur bank costs. In instances where beneficiaries are encouraged to change their current SASSA card for a different card – for example, by persons visiting their homes – they are encouraged to enquire first at their local SASSA office or Post Office to make sure they are fully informed about the cost of a bank account. The SASSA card does not attract any charges,” said Kwele.

While the validity of the current cards has been extended to December 2018, the intention is to migrate the current beneficiaries to the new SAPO Postbank solution and cards by the end of September 2018.
