Amanzimtoti’s Tannie Massie blows out 100 candles

MARTHA ‘Tannie Massie’ Ainslie celebrated her 100th birthday at Mooi Hawens on Tuesday, 24 April surrounded by friends and loved ones.

Martha was born in Kakamas, South Africa, grew up in Weza, a small district west of Harding in KwaZulu-Natal and completed her high school years in Bethlehem. She then met the love of her life, James Ainslie and once married, moved to Durban.

Martha was married for some 40 years to James, and boasts one daughter, Martha ‘Bokkie’, two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. She worked for some 42 years in total, for a while at the post office and then at a factory which made blankets.

After James died, Martha stayed with her daughter in Ladysmith for a while, before moving into Mooi Hawens Residentia.

She enjoys her days in the warm, coastal town of Winklespruit surrounded by friends and constantly visited by loved ones.

Martha ‘Tannie Massie’ Ainslie celebrated her 100th birthday at Mooi Hawens with neice Rina Pries and her husband, Andries Pries on Tuesday, 24 April.
