Gender-based violence put under welfare spotlight

KINGSBURGH Child and Family Welfare Society conducted a domestic violence and capacity building training on gender based violence on Wednesday and Thursday, 11 and 12 April.
Stakeholders in the community were trained by Cookie Edwards from KwaZulu-Natal Network on Violence Against Women.
The programme, which was funded by AECI, was designed to raise awareness by providing information about forms and types of abuse, causes of abuse and court processes, to sensitise communities to gender issues as well encourage communities to work together to take action.
“The aim was to help stakeholders in the community provide the best possible services in the field of gender-based violence,” said Kingsburgh Welfare chairman, Jenny Smith.
The local welfare reflected on the training as a great success.
