St Winifreds home invaders accost elderly couple

The St Winifreds home owner temporarily popped out to the shop and left the gate open, when the criminals took the opportunity to invade.

OPPORTUNISTIC criminals invaded a Colonel Poulten Road home on Saturday, 24 March where they accosted the home owner’s elderly parents before fleeing with numerous cellphones, a television and a car.

The St Winifreds home owner temporarily popped out to the shop and left the gate open, when the criminals took the opportunity to invade.

“The resident left to go to the shop and left the gate open as he was only going out for a few minutes, and is in the process of repairing the gate which is currently operated manually,” explained CCPO’s George Snodey.

“Criminals driving around looking for an opportunity like this, entered the home and accosted the man’s elderly parents.”

Snodey explained that one of the four thugs had a firearm and another a large knife, which they brandished while marching the victims from room to room. “Eventually they took four phones, a TV, a Ford LDV and fled. Fortunately nobody was injured but we are all well aware that this could’ve ended up in a tragedy,” he said. CCPO warned the community to lock their gates, and if able to afford it, have razor wire or electrified fences.

“Westville has gone on another major crime drive after a woman was killed and her son-in-law wounded in a home invasion a few days ago,” said Snodey.

“The reality is as it was once before, once criminals feel the pressure in an area, they will move on to another. We are in immediate danger in our area.”
