School musical to offer flight of fancy

AMANZIMTOTI High School is gearing up for its annual musical, which promises to be more theatrical than its predecessors.

‘Let’s Go Fly a Kite’ takes an unique angle of the iconic ‘Mary Poppins’ and will run on stage at the school from 17 to 20 April.

The local high school has chosen to share a different angle of Mary Poppins, where lead actress Jane, played by Mika Nipper, will share the well-known story of Mary Poppins with her children, who are wondering why their father is always working and seldom present in their day-to-day lives.

Through the recall of Mary Poppins, Let’s Go Fly a Kite will share a variety of hit songs, groovy dances and overall great acting, sure to keep the audience entertained and in awe.

While Amanzimtoti High School has a reputation for producing grand plays, the cast assured the Sun that this musical is going to be its best yet.

The play will be staged for four consecutive evenings, doors open at 6.30pm, the play starts at 7pm and runs for about two hours. Every evening is supper theatre style, where the audience is seated at a table of 10 and can bring their own eats and drinks. On Tuesday and Wednesday, 17 and 18 April tickets will be R60 per person and on Thursday and Friday, 19 and 20 April tickets cost R100 per person, as these evenings are more luxurious gala evenings.
