Illovo Beach man robbed at knifepoint applauds response

I didn't think anything suspicious because I always greet these men every morning

AN AMANZIMTOTI man narrowly escaped with his life this morning (Thursday, 29 March) when two men he has greeted every morning near Illovo Beach held him at knifepoint and robbed him while he waited for his work transport.
Two men armed with knives approached Heinrich Jacobsz (22) while he was waiting for his workmates to fetch him in Elizabeth Avenue.

“I didn’t think anything suspicious because I always greet these men every morning, so it was a shock for me when one pulled out a knife and held it against my throat. They took my wallet and phone,” said Jacobsz.

One of the suspects caught by Blue Security

While the robbery was in progress, the 22-year-old claimed two security guards stood by and watched it happen without offering any help. “They did nothing, they just let these men rob me,” he added.
His workmates arrived moments after and called the police and Blue Security who they say were amazing in their response.

Not long after, the two men were caught by Blue Security officers. “I thank them for their quick response and for making sure these men were arrested. They really went out their way to help me,” he said. His wallet was returned to him.
