Women’s institute AGM gears up for congress

Special mention made of upcoming 90th Congress

AMANZIMTOTI Women’s Institute held its annual general meeting at the library activities room on Tuesday, 13 March.

The meeting opened with the singing of the FWI song, Unity and the reading of the institute prayer, the Mary Stewart Collect.

President, Yvonne Dixie welcomed all members and visitors, especially Robyn Shwikkard, who is an executive member for Alexandra Group, and Janet Francois, group treasurer.

The meeting proceeded briskly, with reports read by Yvonne on the year’s activities and Robyn on group and federation matters. Special mention was made of congress 2018 in September, which will be the 90th congress. There will be a gala lunch on 12 September to which all members are invited.

The group AGM and lunch will be on Thursday, 5 April at Umkomaas.
The positions of office bearers were confirmed with Alicia Kelner welcomed as the new scribe and PRO.

Yvonne thanked the judges for their guidance during the year and all members for their enthusiasm and support, especially Janet Jackman for standing in as secretary while Jennie Martin is away in USA, and Kogie Chetty as treasurer while Grace Finch is in hospital, having had a back op.
She is wished a speedy recovery.

This year AWI will support The Elder’s Voice with monthly donations. Thank you to all members for the longlife milk they brought.

In April AWI will collect soap, tissues and toilet paper.

After tea and delicious snacks (thanks to the tea team), Peggy-Lee Gilles from Coastal Crystals By Lee told members how she had become fascinated with crystals at an early age and showed everyone her beautiful wares.
