Teen rescued after near-drowning experience in Amanzimtoti

The boy was swimming at a beach with no lifeguard supervision.

A 16-year-old boy had to be rescued by lifeguards after a near-drowning experience at a beach between Winklespruit and Warner Beach on Sunday afternoon, 18 March.

“On arrival at about 1pm, paramedics were guided to a lifeguard station where the patient kept,” said Netcare 911 media liaison officer, Shawn Herbst.

Reports from the scene indicate that the boy experienced a near-drowning experience while swimming at a beach, with no lifeguard supervision. However, lifeguards were informed and were able to successfully rescue the boy, who had been submerged for an unknown amount of time.

The patient was assessed on scene by paramedics and transported by his parents to hospital.
