Cuttings Beach clean-up crew swells
CLEAN Surf Project continues to raise awareness about the ocean's wellbeing and has welcomed many new faces in its efforts to clean up the devastatingly littered Cuttings Beach.
On Saturday, 10 March CSP tackled the Cuttings clean-up and was ably assisted by Kuswag Skool pupils, who weredeeply moved by Friday’s presentation made by CSP at the school.

“Saturday’s clean-up was a joint initiative between Clean Surf Project, Ocean 8 Beach Clean-Ups and KZN Beach Clean Up,” said Sapphire Coast Tourism chairman, Romy Wentzel. “The clean-up was very well supported.”

Clean Surf Project has been conducting presentations at local schools throughout February and March, and these are certainly paying off. The sports team from Kuswag High School lent a hand at Saturday’s clean-up after drawing much inspiration from the previous day’s presentation by CSP.

“Many bags of rubbish were filled, with the overall picture being very positive compared to last year’s scenario with plastic, plastic, plastic being everywhere,” explained Romy.
“The only challenge I can foresee is that, as much as the surface appears to be reasonably clean by now, there are solid pieces of plastic such as bottles, shoes, tubs, deodorant bottles and polystyrene hiding underneath, buried as the tides and wind move sand around on a daily basis.
However, with it having been my second attendance at a Cutting Beach clean-up, it is clear that great progress has been made.”
