BREAKING: Gun battle wakes Amanzimtoti as armed business robbers finally caught in Doonside

Five men arrested. Sun reporter was on scene...

A volley of gunshots being exchanged  woke Amanzimtoti residents from Warner Beach to Doonside at about 5am this morning (Wednesday, 7 March), as a joint operation saw five armed business robbers collared.

Metro Police and SAPS officials had laid in wait along with various security roleplayers including ET, CCPO and Blue when they encountered the armed gang in a silver car.
Details are still sketchy, however it has been confirmed that a chase ensued through the area, with gunshots exchanged between police and the criminals.
According to ET Security managing member Tony Lokker, the men have been sought for a while in connection with a slew of armed robberies across the city.
He confirmed that five men had been arrested. When the Sun arrived at Seadoone BP garage 6.30am, where the gunmen finally surrendered just after 5am, three men were lying handcuffed on the ground. Behind their car, police had cleared the contents of their car, which included  huge bolt cutters. About 50 metres down Seadoone Road towards the N2, a second scene was secured behind police cordon tape.
Lokker said the joint operation had been very productive. He said one robber had been shot but there were no fatalities.
This is a developing story.
