JUST IN: Technical fault causes widespread water shutdown in Durban’s southern suburbs

The cause of the service interruption is believed to be a technical fault resulting from the malfunctioning of the pumping system.

The city warns of a water interruption which has halted supply to a number of areas in Durban South.

Affected areas include Prospecton, Isipingo Hills, Athlone Park, Isipingo Beach, Amanzimtoti, KwaMakhutha, Folweni and Ezimbokodweni, with Prospecton-based industries Southgate Industrial, South African Breweries, Toyota, Galleria Mall, Arbour Town and Makro also being impacted.

“The cause of the service interruption is believed to be a technical fault resulting from the malfunctioning of the pumping system. Technicians are working around the clock to resolve the issue and in the interim, water tankers have been dispatched to the affected areas,” said eThekwini head of communications, Tozi Mthethwa.

“eThekwini municipality’s water and sanitation unit officials are working to resolve the issue and we appeal for the public’s co-operation during this time.”
