Five injured as car rolls on N2 opposite old Durban airport

The vehicle had slammed into the centre median

A drive to Umhlanga for KCB First Aid’s Chris Botha on Sunday morning, 25 February turned into a paramedic response opportunity when he came across an accident scene opposite the old airport.

It was just after 8am when Botha slowed opposite the old Durban International Airport site at Isipingo, when he encountered a vehicle with five occupants which had slammed into the centre median and then rolled in the northbound carriageway.

“I was first at the scene, probably a minute or two after it happened,” said the former paramedic.

Botha found the occupants seemed to worn their seatbelts, as all the airbags had deployed.
He assessed the driver and found he had serious injuries, while the others escaped with minor to moderate injuries.

All five were transported by Life Response ambulance to hospital.
Firemen initially assisted Botha to stabilise the injured.
