Support Amanzimtoti SPCA after loss of its inspector, van

Enter a raffle and stand a chance to win a delicious platter while also raising funds for the shelter.

IN an attempt to raise money for a new vehicle and other expenses, the Amanzimtoti SPCA urges the community to enter its raffle and stand a chance to win a delicious food platter.

Over the festive season, the local shelter lost its only field officer and one of its two vehicles.

“For a long time our SPCA has only had two vehicles to service an extremely large area of about 1,600 square kilometers,” explained Amanzimtoti SPCA’s Stacey Wall.

“It also had only one inspector and one field officer, the difference being that only an inspector can issue warnings and confiscate pets. At the end of last year one of the vehicles was written off in an accident. Since then, the shelter has also lost a field officer, leaving it with only one inspector and one vehicle.”

Stacey urges the public to remain understanding of the circumstances and continue to show the patience it always has.

As much as the shelter would love to purchase a new vehicle and hire the two qualified field inspectors it needs, this isn’t possible amid all its usual running expenses and costs related to caring for the hungry, rescued and lonely animals.

In light of its many losses, the Amanzimtoti SPCA reminds the public about its monthly donation scheme. By pledging to donate any amount, preferably R30 or more a month, the shelter can benefit a great deal.

“Things have been going really well for the last few months. The Toti SPCA raised a great amount over the festive season through wrapping stations. However, this loss has really knocked it,” said Stacey. “If any businesses would like to assist with a sponsorship, that would also be amazing and so well received. Remember, your donation saves lives, no matter how small.”

A local Indian restaurant owner has shown that the entire year can be a time for giving. The owner, who wishes to remain anonymous, donated a delicious chicken platter worth R450 for the shelter to raffle.

Raffle tickets cost R10 each, and the raffle will be drawn on 5 March.

“You can either pop in and take a raffle ticket at the 1 Nyati Road offices, Athlone Park, or EFT the payment and use the reference: raffle, your name, and phone number,” explained Stacey. Use the banking details provided above. Entrants are to ensure their phone number is provided in the reference.

Many people don’t realise the problems posed when a town has no animal shelter organisation, or when animals are unable to be rescued, confiscated, treated, found or rehomed. Assist the Amanzimtoti SPCA to continue to keep its doors open and work the miracles it does.
