Amanzimtoti bikers revved for weekend water drive

The biking fraternity is driving this initiative but we appeal to everybody to participate in this event.

KZN bikers are uniting for a water run in aid of the drought-stricken Western Cape.

“We as KZN bikers got together in conjunction with the Pavilion and Gift of the Givers to help promote and distribute water on our behalf in response to the plight of the Western Cape,” said organiser Christo Kruger of Mac’s Motorcycle Club.

“The biking fraternity is driving this initiative but we appeal to everybody to participate in this event.” The bikers will meet on Sunday, 25 February from 8am to depart from the Pavilion at 9.30am and travel to Kuswag Skool, which will be the drop-off point for water donations.

“Trucks have been sponsored by Campos Transport, one of our co-sponsors, which will collect all the water donated and transport it to Johannesburg, where the Gift of the Givers will pack the bottled water and co-ordinate distribution in the Western Cape,” said Christo.

“For those who aren’t able to carry bottled water, for example if they are alone on a bike, cash donations can be made. These cash donations can be made at Kuswag Skool for which receipts will be issued. We have a water company on board where the bottled water will be purchased from donations received.”

The bikers hope to enrol as many of their fellow bikers and friends as possible, from across KZN. Their aim is to collect 10,000 sealed five-litre water bottles, which equates to 50,000 litres of water.
