Dive into Toti rescuer’s dog sterilisation fundraiser

Both a weekend away in the idyllic town of Ramsgate for four, and a scuba diving course for two are up for grabs.

LOCAL dog rescuer, Karen Borain invites the community to take part in her sterilisation drive competition in which, by donating towards the sterilisation of a powerbreed, you’ll be entered into a lucky draw and stand a chance to win either a Discover Scuba Diving course for two or a weekend away in a luxury apartment for four in Ramsgate, both valued at R3,000.

he sterilisation drive is set to take place in March.

By entering the competition not only will you stand a chance to win an amazing prize for you and a partner, or possibly three others, but you’ll help prevent the birth of thousands of unwanted litters.

“For those who have always wanted to experience breathing underwater, and be awed by a whole new world that exists below the surface, now is your chance,” said Karen. “Blue Ocean Dive Resort is a PADI five-star dive centre in Umkomaas which offers an incredible, life-changing experience. Not only will you learn how to scuba, but you will leave with new friends and many unforgettable memories.”

Karen Borain, who herself has dived, urges the community to take up the opportunity to stand a chance to win a diving course for two.

There are few who wouldn’t benefit from a weekend away in the idyllic little town of Ramsgate. The beach apartment is situated a few metres from a creek and less than 100m from the ocean’s edge. It is luxuriously furnished, tastefully decorated and fully equipped with absolutely everything one ever needs on a holiday.

The lovely veranda has breath-taking seaviews and also a fantastic view into the wild gorge barely 10m away. The little creek flows right past the apartment. Often one can watch giant kingfishers at work, cormorants, leguans, ducks and even a fisheagle was spotted in the gorge recently, while dassies chase each other around the garden or simply take a nap in the sun.

This is what donating to have a powerbreed sterilised could win you:

The Dogs of Durban and Powerbreed Rescue founder explained her goal is to sterilise 34 powerbreeds in March, setting the target at R22,950, which will see 17 males and 17 females sterilised.

“If we raise more, then we sterilise more. You can also sponsor a sterilisation or a portion thereof, without entering. A neuter is R500 and a spay is R850,” she explained.

The prizes are valid for a year (apartment excludes peak seasons) and are transferable, so if you win, you can give it to someone as a gift. Each entry is R50 and you can enter as many times as you like.

Payments should to be made to:

FNB Cheque, account name: Powerbreed Rescue NPC, account number: 62741588993, branch code: 250655, Reference: Steri

Proof of payments are then to be sent to dogsofdurban@gmail.com with your name and contact details.

“This is your opportunity to create meaningful and long-lasting change in animal welfare. Thousands of animals end up in shelters every month, and thousands are put down because there aren’t enough homes for the number of puppies being born daily,” said Karen.

“One female can have 67,000 puppies within a six-year period. Let’s stop the problem, let’s save unborn pups from ending up in dog fights, in abusive homes, or unwanted in a lonely kennel. Sterilisation is the solution, but we have to do this together.”

Karen thanked Blue Ocean Dive Resort and African Dive Adventures for sponsoring the amazing prizes. She extended her gratitude to Seadoone Veterinary Clinic for assisting with the mammoth task of sterilising as many powerbreeds as possible.
