CCPO retrieves elusive Amanzimtoti burglar’s loot

We were sure he was on foot, so we conducted a search.

A housebreaker gave the Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO) and police officers the run-around in the early hours of Monday morning, 19 February.

CCPO committee member, George Snodey said there was a housebreaking in Bunting Place. “When we got there, the thief had left,” he said. “We then got a call about a housebreaking in Nongeni Road, which is about 200m away.” When they got there, the criminal had disappeared with a huge TV and a DVD player.

“We were sure he was on foot, so we conducted a search. Blue Security and Metro Police dog unit officers, Shawn Jooste and Jevon China and their K9 partner joined in the search which lasted about two hours, to no avail.

“We then got a call of a home invasion in Glen Place,” said Snodey. “All three places are within 300m of each other. At Glen Place the suspect had left behind his bag, which had the DVD player stolen from Nongeni Road in it.” Officers Jooste and China managed to find the TV hidden in a wall but the suspect was nowhere to be found.
