Amanzimtoti burglar put back behind bars, thanks to CCPO

The home owner was woken up and asked to identify the property.

A burglar is back behind bars after diligent work by the Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO).

CCPO committee member, George Snodey said a lawnmower and brushcutter were found in School Road in the early hours of Wednesday, 14 February. “When the CCPO and Blue Security arrived at about 2.30am, they heard the dogs going berserk as the suspect fence-hopped to escape,” he said.

After setting up surveillance in the nearby bush, CCPO and Blue Security patrol officer Mbuyiselo ‘Triple M’ Mdunjane and his crewman Mbambo Nhlanhla were rewarded for their patience when a suspect emerged after a while.

“He was apprehended and after being questioned, he led them to a premises in Stanwick Road where he had broken into and stolen the items. The home owner was woken up and asked to identify the property. After identifying the items as his, the resident opened a case of housebreaking at Toti SAPS,” said Snodey.

The thief was arrested and detained. The same man had been arrested a few years ago by the CCPO and Blue Security when he broke into a premises in World’s View Road in Doonside.

“If you haven’t joined the CCPO in the fight against crime, give it some serious thought. While you were sleeping, our guys were jumping fences in pursuit of this suspect and our other members, along with the Blue Security guys who had set up ‘stopper’ groups in Entombeni and Felikise in case he escaped from the guys chasing him.” To join the CCPO, call Snodey on 083-655-4302 or the CCPO office on 031-903-7037.
