Amanzimtoti art lovers are invited to explore the talents of artist Sheila Fraser, as she hosts an exhibition of her work at The Terrace on Saturday and Sunday, 24 and 25 February.

The exhibition will showcase Sheila’s stunning mixed media wildlife paintings, ranging from acrylic inks and paints, and polychrome (wax pencil).

“I’ve been an artist all my life. I’ve been drawing since I was a little girl,” said Sheila, who is a long-time member of the Upper South Coast Art Association. “I studied commercial art in the 1950s, which nowadays is called graphic design.”

Seventy-five-year-old Sheila was born in Witbank and moved to Toti 12 years ago. She is married to John and they have four children – Craig, Tracy, Gordon and Nicky.

“I will have about 12 paintings plus some small ones at the exhibition, and they will all be on sale. All are on wildlife and the Big 5, which I do in graphite (pencil). I work from photos sent to me by Nicole Mathesie. She is originally from Hamburg, Germany and is now a game ranger in Botswana. I made friends with her on Facebook and asked her permission to paint one of her photos she had uploaded. Now she regularly sends me her wildlife photos.”

Catch Sheila’s exhibition at The Terrace Tea Garden at Illovo Nursery, Illovo Beach from 9am to 4pm on both days. To check out some of Sheila’s art, visit the Facebook page ‘Upper South Coast Art Association’.
