Domino Foundation volunteers have started this year with a bang – making sandwiches, packing relief hampers for families in crises and feeding little ones at various creches.

The Domino Foundation, a non-profit organisation, operates a feeding kitchen in Amanzimtoti and through support from donors and the public, it is keen to extend its aid to more vulnerable children.

“The heart of the programme is to feed vulnerable children who go to school with empty tummies to enhance learning through meeting their physical need for health and balanced nutrition,” said Domino Foudation project leader for Amanzimtoti, Cheryl Dann.

“Our branch currently feeds 10 schools and a number of creches from Isipingo to Magabeni, including central Amanzimtoti. JAM South Africa is the main donor of the porridge we supply to the creches on a monthly basis.”

John Benn, the KZN regional manager said: “JAM South Africa is a non-profit and public benefit organisation with the vision of ‘Helping Africa help itself’. One of our key programmes is providing nutritional support to children under the age of six-years across South Africa.

In KZN we partner with a number of organisations, including the Domino Foundation, to provide a highly nutritious breakfast in the form of a fortified porridge to over 20,000 children every morning. We are excited to be working with Domino in Amanzimtoti, reaching over 4,000 hungry child in partnership with local creche forums. Domino is a key partner in the work of reducing malnutrition and improving each child’s ability to learn.”

Volunteers Colleen van der Walt, Liz Cullen, Jural Mzulwini from Kulisani Foundation, Rowena James make nutritious sandwiches for the Domino Foundation.

Cheryl said they are equally excited to work with JAM South Africa to expand the good work they are doing in the city’s Southern basin. “Our goal is to operate a multi-purpose feeding scheme in the South and feel this is the start of things to come. We cannot do this without the help of the community and our community has been amazingly generous in the past. We are very grateful for this and thank the Toti residents.”
