REACH For Words Reading Centre invites the community to volunteer to assist children from disadvantaged communities who struggle to read.
All volunteers are given extensive training which will benefit them when working with any children, even their own.

“I manage a reading and literacy programme called Reach For Words Reading Centre,” said Rehana Arumugam. “The centre is situated at Isipingo Beach Intermediate School. The programme is for foundation phase learners who need support in English literacy skills and reading.”
Rehana explained that the reading centre started from a need to assist children from disadvantaged communities who struggled to read in English at school. It is run entirely by volunteers during school hours.
“Our centre is desperately seeking people from the immediate and surrounding communities to help,” she said. “I appeal to stay-at-home mums, part-time students, retired and unemployed people to join us. All training and resources will be provided and this volunteer experience proves very useful to parents and caregivers of learners in grades one, two and three, to assist their own children.”
