Lions club’s outreach gets an early start

The third project which we are presently arranging is to visit old age pensioners who reside at Mooi Hawens.

Kingsburgh Lions Club is hitting the ground running this year with three projects already on the go.

For the last few years, Kingsburgh Lions Club has appealed to the public to assist with donations for the needy and less fortunate to assist with its ‘scarves and beanies’ project.

“We continue our appeal to the community again this year. We usually hand the donated items out at Easter, just before the cold weather starts closing in, sometimes with Easter eggs, depending on the availability of funds,” said Kingsburgh Lions president, Moira Rigby.

“The communities in Amanzimtoti and Kingsburgh have always been generous and hard working in assisting us to knit and crochet these articles. We can collect from our supporters or they can leave items at Patches Haberdashery in Seadoone Mall for us to collect.” For more details, contact Lion Lyn Lyle on 082-402-7542 or Moira Rigby on 082-876-3239.

The second project they are focusing on is the ‘anything warm campaign’, where the Lions collect warm items of clothing for the less fortunate folk in the community, including children’s homes and orphanages.

“The public has been very generous in donating jerseys, long pants, jackets, beanies, scarves, hats, in fact any item of warm clothing and blankets. This project runs directly after the scarves and beanies project.

Baskets are left at different drop-off points from Winklespruit to Athlone Park. The public will be notified in the SUN of the various drop-off points closer to winter. For more information, call Lyn or Moira.

“The third project which we are presently arranging is to visit old age pensioners who reside at Mooi Hawens, just to spend some time with them, to chat with them or to read to those who have poor eyesight,” said Moira. “There are many lonely old folk who long for company. Some may have children too far away or others may be widowed.”
