KZN university uncovers ‘sale’ of academic places

Affected students had alerted the Student Representative Council (SRC) and campus security of the unlawful practises, which are now the subject of a police investigation

The University of Zululand has uncovered fraudulent activities related to the ‘sale’ of academic places to prospective first-time students, according to a press statement released today (Thursday, 25 January).

Individuals have ‘sold’ academic places to students who are desperate to register at the university.

The university said affected students had alerted the Student Representative Council (SRC) and campus security of the unlawful practises. The cases have been reported to the South African Police Services for further investigation.

The university expressed its appreciation to its SRC and campus security for being committed to stamping out such fraudulent practises.

The University of Zululand reiterated its stance on zero tolerance towards corruption and wrongdoing. It assured staff and students as well as the externally-based stakeholders of its commitment to uphold the highest ethical standards and practices.

Stakeholders are invited to alert the university’s management of all forms of corruption, on either of the following numbers: 064-755-8934 / 035-902-6599 / 035-902-6479.

The university warns its students not to pay money to any person or entity, other than the university’s bank account. Banking details can be found on the UNIZULU website and relevant pamphlets which are made available to students.
