CCPO records several successes in last week

Within 30 minutes we had found him on the foot bridge at Toti station.

The Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO) has had a number of successes this week.

On Wednesday, 17 January the CCPO received a call from a resident in Arnold Hunt Road regarding a cellphone which was forgotten on a car leaving their premises. On viewing the CCTV footage, it was soon apparent that a man delivering local papers had picked it up.

“A description of the phone was given to us and within 30 minutes two delivery guys were found sitting in the shade in close proximity, studying a phone,” said CCPO committee member, George Snodey. A quick check soon revealed it was indeed the correct phone, and it was returned to its rightful owner.

Later that day the CCPO was contacted by Toti detectives regarding a suspect they were searching for. “The suspect is well-known to the CCPO for snatching gold chains and bags from people in Toti, with Beach Road being his preferred area. We have had no CAS number to arrest him on up to now but that all changed last week when the detectives gave us a CAS number.

Within 30 minutes we had found him on the foot bridge at Toti station and a quick call to the detectives who were close by also searching soon had the thug in handcuffs. This criminal has been causing havoc in Toti and it was with a sigh of relief that we saw him being detained,” said Snodey.

In a separate incident on Thursday, 18 January a CCPO crewman found two aluminium doors in Warner Beach. Mbambo Nhlanhla saw a man go into the bush in Ridge Road. When he went into the bush to investigate, the man bolted and he found the doors. If you have had aluminium doors stolen, call George Snodey on 083-655-4302.
