WATCH: Mother and son duo conquers world’s highest swing jump

Jeanne Barnard and her son Aiden Hummel took a giant leap down Oribi Gorge's Wild Swing - which is the highest for its kind in the world - for his birthday on Sunday, 21 January.

“What do you do when you turn 16? You jump off a cliff. What do you do when you’re the mom of the 16 year old? You jump as well.”

These are the words of Jeanne Barnard, founder of The Wardrobe Exchange and mother of 16 year old Aiden Hummel, who for his sweet 16th, asked to jump off the highest swing of it’s kind in the world, Oribi Gorge’s 165m of adrenaline pumping exhilaration – The Wild Swing.

Jeanne went on to explain how this very jump reminded her so much of her relationship with Aiden.

“When I fell pregnant with you I had no idea what to expect, it was like standing at the edge of a cliff knowing that I’m about to make the biggest and most important jump of my life. Jumping into motherhood,” she expressed in a Facebook post. “And what a wild ride it’s been. We’ve had 16 years of ups and downs, exhilarating highs and devastating lows but we always, always come up smiling.

Jeanne wished a happy 16th birthday to her closet adrenaline junkie and reminded him that the only way he’ll ever learn to fly, is to take a leap of faith first.
