Safeguard Toti SPCA collection cans from thieves

Amanzimtoti SPCA collection tins that are placed at shops around town are being stolen at a rapid rate.

THE Amanzimtoti SPCA and its devoted volunteers have encouraged shop owners to safeguard collection cans as theft of these items is increasing.

The Toti SPCA thanks the shop owners who allow it to put a collection tin in their shop, and feels equal gratitude to the community for putting in their small change which aids the shelter tremendously.

Sadly, the shelter also experiences a problem when collecting the tins.

“I, along with other volunteers collect and replace the full tins from time to time, but more and more we arrive to check the tins at a shop and we are told that the tins have been stolen,” said volunteer and Edu Paw founder Cathy Keegan. “This is terrible to know that people will steal from a charity. Where we can and are able to, we use cable ties to secure the tins in place but this has not stopped the thieves who somehow still manage to steal them.”

Cathy hoped that by sharing this with the community, shop owners and the public will become more aware as well as keep an ear and eye out for suspicious happenings regarding the theft of collection tins.
