All aboard! South Coast train service set to resume

Lines between Reunion and Amanzimtoti, remained inoperable as a result of washaways and landslides.

The train lines between Kelso and Reunion, incorporating the entire Upper South Coast, have been restored and Metrorail KZN will commence normal services from Monday, 15 January.

The 10 October 2017 storm crippled the train service throughout the province for about a week. While Metrorail was able to recover most services, its South Coast lines particularly between Reunion and Amanzimtoti, remained inoperable as a result of washaways and landslides that left some sections of the line under debris or hanging in the air. Metrorail had to close the South Coast line until all repairs were completed.

“Contractors worked through the festive season to ensure services were restored as soon as possible,” said Metrorail communication manager, Isabel van der Westhuizen.
“While every effort will be made to run the services as advertised, the suspension of services since October could reveal further unforeseen complications which could cause delays or cancellations.

Metrorail thanks commuters and businesses for their understanding and co-operation during this difficult period.”
