He then assaulted her using a gun which she later realised was a toy.

A woman was seriously assaulted during an attempt to steal her cellphone while she waited to board a taxi near the boomgate in Lotus Park on Thursday morning, 28 December.

It was reported on the Alpha Alarms’ social media page that the victim was visibly shaken and sustained injuries in the attack. According to her, a thief attempted to grab her cellphone from her hand when he jumped from behind a power box but she resisted.

He then assaulted her using a gun which she later realised was a toy, as it broke before he tried to grab the cellphone. The assault and attempted robbery allegedly occurred in view of community members who failed to assist the woman. She claimed she ran to another patrolling private security response vehicle (known to Alpha Alarms), whose members pushed her away and drove off while the suspect was allegedly still on site.

Another motorist armed with a firearm, stopped to assist and the suspect fled the scene.
