Gauteng holidaymaker sustains fatal heart attack at Winklespruit Beach

The 56-year-old man was in waist-deep water when he sustained a heart attack

The death of a 56 year old man on holiday from Roodepoort at Winklespruit Beach on Friday morning, 15 December marked a tragic start to the festive season.
In a post on Facebook, ward 97 councillor, Andre Beetge said the man died due to natural causes while bathing at the beach.
He is believed to have suffered a heart attack in waist deep water, close to shore.
Immediate assistance rendered by the seasonal lifeguard on duty, who was joined by both municipal and private emergency services that arrived on scene less than 10 minutes of being alerted, proved futile.
“While severely traumatised, the family expressed both gratitude and praise towards lifeguards and emergency personnel who tried everything within their power to resuscitate the patient. However and despite their best efforts, he sadly died. As a town and community we extend our condolences to the family,” said Cllr Andre Beetge
He added that the man had apparently suffered and survived a heart attack at the same beach some 11 years ago.
